How to apply false eyelashes

If you’re getting married abroad, you might want to consider wearing false eyelashes as part of your wedding day look. Even though you’ll probably have booked the use of a makeup artist for the actual day itself, you may be holding other celebrations around the time of the wedding (such as a rehearsal dinner) that you’ll also want to look your best for.

False eyelashes add tons of glamour to your look and aren’t that difficult to apply once you’ve had some practice. There are tons of different varieties of eyelashes that you could use for your look. Some are thick, long and dramatic, whilst others are more discreet and dainty. Only you will know what look you’re trying to create, so go with whatever you think is best. The good thing about false eyelashes is that they’re quite affordable, so you can afford to try a couple of pairs before you find a style that you’re happy with.

1. If you want to put on a thin, single coat of mascara (clear or coloured) then that’s ok as it actually helps the fake lashes mold to the real ones. Make sure it’s dry before you start applying the fake ones though.

2. Next, take a black, brown or grey eyeliner and draw a thin pencil line along your upper eyelid and smudge it a little bit. Aside from giving you gorgeous smoky peepers, this also helps to hide the line of the fake eyelashes.

3. Squeeze a small bit of glue onto your hand, or onto the packet that the eyelashes came in. Drop the base band of the eyelashes through the glue carefully, then wait around 30 seconds and wave them around a bit until the glue starts to go a bit tacky.

4. Starting with the outside of the eye, squeeze the base band of the eyelashes to the natural root of your eyelashes, then slowly move along the line of your eye, squeezing fake lashes to real lashes until you get to the inner eye. If necessary, carefully use a pair of tweezers to pinch the lashes shut together.

5. Once you’re happy with the alignment of the lashes and the glue has dried, then you can touch up the lashes with some mascara, which will further seal the lashes together.

It’s always a good idea to take the remainder of the glue out with you, as well as tweezers, mascara and some cotton buds.

To remove them, simply peel the fake eyelashes from the real ones. Use eye make-up remover to loosen them if they feel stuck.
