Getting married overseas can pose some problems when imagining your bridal look. If you’re marrying in the UK, then it’s normal to have several hair and makeup trials with varying hair and makeup artists before choosing one that you like. Unfortunately it’s not that simple when planning a wedding abroad.
The good news is that if you’ve booked your wedding as a package from a travel company or a wedding co-ordinator, then it’s quite likely that you’ll have hair and makeup as well as a trial for each included in the price of the package.
The bad news is that your trial will probably take place 1 to 2 days before your wedding, giving you little time to find a look that you like. If you then decide that you really don’t like your stylist or beautician, it’s also a very small amount of time to source a replacement professional, especially when you’ll have so many other last-minute wedding preparations to be carrying out.
The key to stop yourself from going crazy imagining your frizzy bridal mop complete with fluorescent green eyeshadow is to plan ahead as much as possible.
First things first – scour the Internet for pictures of both hair and makeup that you could envisage yourself with. You can copy and paste the ones you like into Microsoft Word and then print off on a colour printer.
You can either send these pictures to your wedding co-ordinator at your destination wedding so that they can pass these on to your wedding day hair stylist and makeup artist, or alternatively, before doing this, you could arrange for a wedding hair and makeup trial over here. At a hair and makeup trial, you will then be able to see, months in advance, whether or not the look you have in mind actually suits you. It’s also a good opportunity to discover whether you need to change the colour of your hair, or buy some hair extensions to give you more volume or options. Boots offer a wonderful range of styleable hair extensions from Babyliss starting at GBP 30.00.
Have more than one trial if you’re not happy, but once you are, you can then send these photos as well as the ones that you found on the Internet off to your destination wedding team.
Many brides also like the idea of being able to do their own hair and makeup. It often saves money on costs (you can sometimes opt to have these extras removed from your basic wedding package) and of course you get full control over how your hair and face look.
For an idea on which makeup products work best for you, you might want to go for a ‘makeover’ at a department store makeup counter. It’s normal for them to take a small booking fee which can then be exchanged for makeup items if you choose to purchase anything.
Boots has an excellent range of online makeup from top sellers such as Benefit, Ruby & Millie, L’Oreal, Max Factor, Ted Baker, Too Faced and Urban Decay. They offer free shopping on all orders over GBP 40.00 and you can collect Advantage points on all your purchases.
Once you’ve got all your products, practice and practice again until you’re sure you’re able to create your look with minimum drama!
